We are excited to share that Ms. Yanica, a teacher from St. Theresa College Birkirkara Primary School, extended a warm invitation to Dr Lorraine Portelli, the principal investigator of TRACtion, to visit the school and present on the Maltese Traditional costume, the Għonnella. This engaging initiative stemmed from Ms. Yanika’s lessons on clothing and traditional costumes with her Year 1 students.

Traditionally worn by women, the Għonnella found enthusiastic new fans among the young boys in the class, who were just as eager as the girls to try on this iconic costume. During this interactive session, students actively engaged to feel and touch the silk and cotton fabrics, and their natural sources, which were common materials used when making the Għonnella.
