The University of Helsinki TRACtion Team – Etelä-Karjalan Museum Costume Archive Research

The University of Helsinki team carried out research of Karelian costumes together with the Computational spectral imaging research group from the University of Eastern Finland in Etelä-Karjalan museo. Colourful embroideries’ reflectances were scanned in the visible and near infrared region from 400 to 1000 nm. All researchers, Peppi Toukola, Mari Kosunen, Aino Eerikäinen, Riikka Räisänen, Dmitry Semenov and Joni Hyttinen as well as the conservator Riikka Jäväjä were observing the event with great interest. We are eager to find out what the reflectance spectra would show us, and what could we interpret from them. Spectra will be further analysed with computational means.
