Ms. Mari Kosunen (member of the University of Helsinki TRACtion Team) has been drawing technical pictures of the traditional folk costumes of the South Karelia Museum. Now she is working on a late 19th century shirt from Heinjoki.
The late 19th century shirt is made of off-white linen and embroidery called Rekko, done with coloured wool threads. Underneath the embroidery, invisible to the eye, is a strongly pleated part, which must have been very laborious to produce with the methods of the time.
