Traditional lace and costume embroidery designs were magnified, and patterns were recreated using two-dimensional and digital means. Primary school children responded creatively to the designs in a recent competition that coincided with the TRACtion exhibition in Ireland. The organiser was @drkmcsweeney @atustangelas.

The digital recreations illustrate how technology can effectively reimagine these designs and support further original creativity and innovation.

Some interpretations and new creations are almost unrecognisable from the original designs. New patterns were created within the lace design and in the background, which was unique.

The entries received from primary school children have helped revive and innovate traditional Irish textile designs. The competition stimulated personal interest in textiles and traditional costume and craft design.
